Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland

Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland (RCTN) is a really worthwhile local not for profit charity run by women for women. They provide counselling, information and support to women who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. They are a feminist organisation who promote the needs and rights of women and girls who have experienced sexual violence, to improve services to them and to work towards the elimination of sexual violence. RCTN is women-led and offers a range of support, advocacy, counselling and information in a women-only safe space. They also work to raise awareness of the true nature and prevalence of sexual violence.

40th birthday Comedy night

This year, RCTN is 40 years old! To celebrate, they have launched a campaign to raise £40,000 over the year.

They have a whole year of fundraising events planned, including a comedy night with an all-female line-up because WOMEN ARE FUNNY! It’s SO annoying when people say they aren’t, women are just as funny as men. There is nothing more that I enjoy more than funny women and I can’t wait for this comedy night:

“The entire evening will be hosted by the fabulous Lou Conran, a comedy bill with Lou Conran as compere is in good hands. If her name is on the programme, you can relax: you’re in for a good night.

The consistently hilarious Jessica Fostekew will also join the line-up to celebrate our 40th birthday. Comedian, writer, actress regular guest host of Guilty Feminist Podcast, Jessica will have you roaring with laughter.

Local lass, Sammy Dobson makes an appearance as one of our favourite comedians and regular supporter of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland.

Finally, Geordie and Best Newcomer Nominee at the Fringe in 2017 Lauren Pattison will headline the night. Fresh from taking her new show Peachy to the Edinburgh Fringe, Lauren was previously a finalist in the BBC New Comedy Award 2016 and Chortle Student Comedy Awards 2015… make no mistake, as Lauren makes waves across the comedy scene, you are in for a treat!”
